Sometimes people realize after filing that something important was missing or entered incorrectly. When that happens, the IRS allows the return to be corrected through an amended return.
An amendment simply updates the original return so the information reflects what should have been reported.

If an amendment is needed, the updated return will be prepared and reviewed before submission.
Step 4 — Submission to the IRS
Once signed, the amended return is submitted to the IRS for processing
